As tensions on Earth push the United States and the Soviet Union toward nuclear catastrophe, the two nations launch a joint mission to Jupiter. Aboard the Leonov, Russian and American scientists race to reach the still-orbiting Discovery spacecraft and uncover what happened there, including the fate of its H.A.L. 9000 computer, the mission’s only known survivor.
