In Baghdad, a caliph is forced into hiding after his half brother seizes the throne. Taking refuge with a troupe of traveling performers, he becomes caught in a struggle that is both political and personal. As the rival brothers battle for power, each also seeks the love of Scheherazade, a beautiful dancing girl torn between the promise of authority and the pull of true love.
