Conrack

In this true story, Pat Conroy is a young, idealistic white teacher assigned to an elementary school on Yamacraw Island, an isolated fishing community off the coast of South Carolina. Working with poor Black children who have been neglected and left largely illiterate, he discovers how little they have been taught about the world beyond their island.
