During China’s Warring States period, a district prefect arrives at the palace of Qin Shi Huang with an extraordinary claim. Three years earlier, three assassins had attempted to take the king’s life, and the prefect now says he has killed them all. His arrival brings him before the ruler, where his account of the assassins’ fate becomes the center of a tense audience.
