Ruby, a classical dancer beginning her studies on scholarship at the Manhattan Conservatory of the Arts, crosses paths with Johnnie, an English hip hop violinist performing in a New York subway station. As music and dance draw them together, they work with a hip hop dance crew to bridge their different worlds and prepare for a competition that could change their lives.
