Ted Kramer, a Manhattan advertising executive absorbed in his career, is left to care for his young son Billy when his wife Joanna walks out. Suddenly responsible for housekeeping and daily parenting he has long neglected, Ted struggles to balance work with fatherhood. As he begins to adjust to life with Billy, the separation turns more painful when a custody battle puts their fragile new routine at risk.
