No Chains, No Masters
In 1759 on Mauritius Island, French settlers control the land while deported slaves live in fear and labor in the sugar cane plantations. On Eugene Larcenet’s plantation, Massamba has grown disillusioned, but his 16-year-old daughter Mati refuses to keep her head down and accept her fate.
