Small Country: An African Childhood

In Burundi, 10-year-old Gabriel grows up in a comfortable expatriate neighborhood, enjoying a carefree childhood with his friends and little sister. His “small country” feels protected from the wider world, until 1993, when the ethnic conflict between Hutu and Tutsi in neighboring Rwanda begins to spill across the border, threatening his family and the innocence of his childhood.
