In 1985 Ireland, Bill Furlong works as a coal merchant to provide for his family and live as a devoted father. When his work brings him into contact with the local convent, he discovers disturbing secrets that have long been kept hidden. As troubling truths from his own life begin to surface, Bill is forced to confront his past and the silence of a small town under the control of the Catholic Church.
