In Chicago, ruthless newspaper editor Walter Burns is not ready to lose his top reporter, Hildy Johnson, to retirement. When one more major crime story comes along, Burns uses questionable tactics and hidden motives to keep Hildy on the job, pushing his star reporter back toward the newsroom for a final assignment.
