Joseph falls into despair when his nine-year-old son, Shea, leaves for Australia with his ex, Debbie. Reeling from the separation and suffering a brutal hangover, he makes a sudden break from the life he has been living. Leaving everything behind, Joseph boards a boat bound for Ireland, where he hopes to face the painful memories of his childhood that continue to haunt him.
